What is a degree in Public Health?

The Public Health degree program is ideal for students interested in careers in community and public health settings. The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) is a broad-based degree that prepares students to use specialized knowledge and skills for disease prevention, including epidemiology, environmental health, health disparities, health communications and social marketing, behavior science, and health program planning to promote individual, community, and public health. Graduates of this program play a vital role in health promotion teams in public health agencies, industries, non-profit organizations, and various clinical settings with specializations in obesity and diabetes prevention, epidemiology, mental health, substance abuse prevention, public policy, environmental health, maternal, child, and adolescent health, or worksite wellness. Completion of this program may lead to further education opportunities in community and public health, health promotion, allied health, dental, and medical graduate programs. Upon degree completion, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH), and the Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP) exams.
