Recreation Management Culminating Experience

Thesis Option:

Students who are planning to continue into a doctoral program are especially encouraged to complete a thesis as part of the master’s curriculum. This is a process of independent research guided by a thesis advisor and committee. For more information, see Thesis Guidelines

Non-Thesis Option:

Students who choose the non-thesis option are required to pass a comprehensive examination. The Comprehensive examination should be taken in the last semester of study and includes examination sections related to Theory and Philosophy, Research and Literature, and Management Practices. The examination items are written and graded by a faculty member responsible for each topical area.

Within three weeks of the examination, students receive email notification of the results. If you fail part of the examination, you may be allowed to retake that section during the same semester. If you fail all three parts, you must wait until the next exam administration to retake. If you fail a section twice you will be required to retake a course within that content area before you are allowed to attempt the examination again.
