All counselors attended training sessions and were educated in camp curriculum, research assessments, and proper interaction skills for children with ASD in an applied setting. The counselors are responsible for carrying out daily camp activities. They communicated, and interacted with the children with ASD on a day-to-day basis. We had a 1:1 (counselor: child) ratio for this summer camp. The children who attended multiple summer camp sessions, are assigned to the same counselor throughout the camp experience. This ensured the counselor got to know the child well and the child felt comfortable communicating their needs to the counselor. The counselors’ hard work and effort helped make this camp a success.
