Duane Knudson earned his Ph.D. in biomechanics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has held tenured faculty positions at Baylor University, California State University-Chico, and Texas State University. He is currently Professor of biomechanics in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Texas State. Dr. Knudson has received numerous grants for his research on the biomechanics of sport and exercise. He has authored 100 peer-reviewed articles in influential journals like the Journal of Applied Biomechanics, International Journal of Sport Biomechanics, Sports Biomechanics, Sports Engineering, Gait & Posture, Research Quarterly for Exercise in Sport, International Journal of Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine, British Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Sports Sciences, Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport, European Journal of Applied Physiology, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Kinesiology Review, Quest, and Journal of College Science Teaching. His research areas are in the biomechanics of tennis, stretching, qualitative movement diagnosis, learning biomechanical concepts, as well as influence and citation metrics of kinesiology research. Dr. Knudson has also authored three books, 14 chapters, and 31 peer-reviewed articles in scientific proceedings. He has also authored over two dozen articles for professionals and athletes in sport magazines and web sites. His scholarship has been cited over 3278 times for an h-index of 28, a g-index of 49, and four citation classics (C>100) on Google Scholar. His individualized h-index is 21 and his ResearchGate score is 33.7 (93rd percentile). Dr. Knudson has also been a successful administrator serving as associate dean (5 years), department chair (10 years), and receiving the 2017 Jerry R. Thomas Distinguished Leadership Award from the American Kinesiology Association (AKA). He has served on four journal editorial boards, VP of Publications for ISBS, President of the AKA, and has been elected fellow of three scholarly societies. He has been recognized as an outstanding young alumni from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and has received the Southeast ACSM Scholar, SHAPE America Southern District Scholar, and TAHPERD Scholar Awards. Additional national honors include the 2011 Ruth B. Glassow Honor Award from the Biomechanics Academy of NASPE and the NAHKHE 2016 Dudley Allen Sargent Lecture.
