Let me welcome you to the web site for the Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) at Texas State University. In this page I outline who we are, summarize our academic programs and vision for the future, as well as thank the alumni and friends that help us on this journey.
The Department of HHP is a learning community of over 50 faculty, 8 staff, and approximately 3000 majors. Our faculty are nationally and internationally known for their research in athletic training, exercise science/kinesiology, health, and recreation.
We offer rigorous and student-centered instruction leading to bachelors and masters degrees in athletic training, exercise and sport science, health and wellness promotion, recreation administration, as well as activity classes in personal fitness and wellness. Our graduates are prepared for successful careers in adult fitness, exercise science research, health education and promotion, physical education, sports medicine and rehabilitation, therapeutic recreation and recreation administration.
Our vision for the future “stands on the shoulders of giants.” Some of these giants are former faculty, current faculty and students, as well as our alumni and community partners. We want to build on our long-standing reputation for preparing excellent athletic trainers, health educators, physical education teachers, and recreation leaders. Our goal is to communicate and create knowledge promoting evidence-based practice in allied health, education, and recreation professions. We work to directly promote human capacity and quality of life for all through evidence-based prescription of human movement, recreational activities, and health/wellness education.
I hope you will take time to explore our web site or come by the Jowers Center to learn more about or work with us. If you have any questions you can contact us at 512-245-2561.
